Sadaqah Al Fitr

Sadaqatul Fitr

Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) made Zakat al-Fitr compulsory as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech and as food for the needy. Whoever pays it before the prayer (of Eid), it is accepted as Zakat, while whoever pays it after the prayer is only giving charity.” Sahih al-Bukhari.

Sadaqatul Fitr is an obligatory donation that Muslims give at the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a charitable donation that is intended to provide basic necessities to the poor and needy so that they can celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

The amount of Sadaqatul Fitr is usually calculated based on the local cost of food items and is equivalent to one measure of food per person. In Canada, USA, and Europe, the estimated amount of Sadaqatul Fitr for 2023 is as follows:

Canada: The recommended amount of Sadaqatul Fitr in Canada is $15 per person. This amount is based on the cost of one measure of food in the local area.

USA: The estimated amount of Sadaqatul Fitr in the USA for 2023 is $12 per person. This amount is based on the cost of one measure of food in the local area.

Europe: The estimated amount of Sadaqatul Fitr in Europe for 2023 varies depending on the country and local cost of food. The recommended amount ranges from €7-€10 per person.

It is important to note that these amounts are estimates and may vary depending on the local cost of food and other factors. Muslims are encouraged to give what they can afford and to be generous in their donations to help those in need.
